Shakira M. Jest– Dental Assistant/Team Coordinator
“I became a dental assistant at the age of 19 years old and never looked back,” says Shakira. “I have always loved great smiles so a career in dentistry seemed just perfect for me. Over 20 years later, I know that I made a great decision because my career in dentistry has been fantastic!” Certified in CPR and Radiology, Shakira works side by side with Dr. Green assisting with dental treatments, helps schedule patient treatment plans, handles lab cases, takes x-rays, and sterilizing instruments. What Shakira loves best about her job is caring for patients. “Building relationships with patients is my greatest joy,” she enthuses. “I really enjoy coming to work every day. Working as a team, we are focused on building relationships and providing the highest quality care in a warm, comfortable environment. This separates Dr. Green from other dentists and really fuels my passion for what I do. It is a privilege to work alongside this doctor.” Clearly, Shakira appreciates working in a practice that focuses on meeting patient needs while caring for their overall health. In her free time, Shakira enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, party planning, cooking, and taking long walks on the beach. But most important to Shakira is living a healthy, spiritual, and balanced life.
Melissa majored in biology at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and was trained as a dental assistant for a periodontist. After working as an assistant for six years, she was trained in dental hygiene at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Her primary objectives are to help patients maintain healthy tissues, and prevent and treat periodontal disease. Another very important aspect of her job is educating patients on dental hygiene, a part of her work she really enjoys. Says Melissa, “I love my field! I am passionate about healthcare and enthusiastic about helping others. I enjoy my interactions with the variety of people from different age groups and backgrounds that come through our office. I always learn new things about people and what motivates them, and that helps me develop my approach to delivering dental hygiene education.” Melissa enjoys the team she works with and the daily operations of the practice. “We are a small practice, which creates a warm and intimate setting for our care,” remarks Melissa. “We can give personalized attention and spend plenty of one-on-one time with our patients to address all their needs and concerns.” An exercise/healthy living enthusiast, Melissa’s hobbies include aerobics, kickboxing, personal training, and cycling. She also loves to read; mystery novels are her favorites. Even when not at work, Melissa enjoys learning about dentistry, and says, “I like to spend my free time attending ADHA meetings (American Dental Hygiene Association) in order to collaborate with others within the organization to aid in the advancement of the profession.”
