May - National HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE Education Month

Why is the DENTIST taking my Blood Pressure?

May is NATIONAL HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE EDUCATION MONTH. Sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and recognized by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National High Blood Pressure Education Month raises awareness about the impact of hypertension.

Why does the dentist check your blood pressure? Many people see their dentist more regularly than a physician and could get an early warning about high blood pressure when getting their teeth cleaned or having other dental treatments done. This means dentists will always have better access to checking a patient’s important health markers like blood pressure and in some cases blood glucose levels than medical doctors.

Screening is Important

Much like our screenings for oral cancer, testing our patients’ blood pressure is one more way to ensure their long-term health. High blood pressure leads to cardiovascular disease, including strokes and heart attacks. Detecting hypertension early is one way to prevent these life-threatening problems.

Here at Dr. Gary Green's office, we are not only interested in your oral health, but your overall health too. We take every precaution to ensure that you will leave happy and healthy. During the spring/summer months, get a blood pressure screening with your cleaning. Clean then screen! Just ask! Call 973-228-0252.
