Common Dental Problems

Serving Caldwell, Essex County, Livingston, and Verona, New Jersey

Claire - Actual Patient

Some cosmetic dental problems are purely aesthetic but most involve a real dental problem. Cosmetic Dentistry corrects these real dental problems in the most beautiful way possible.

Cracks, chips, and broken teeth

Cracks, fractures, chips, and broken teeth can all be very painful and sensitive. Even when they do not cause pain, they promote tooth decay, and, over time, can cause the tooth to become damaged beyond repair. Chips and cracks can also become discolored.

Depending on the nature and extent of the problem, Dr. Green will usually recommend Porcelain Veneers or Dental Bonding for these types of problems. If the tooth is very weak, a tooth crown may be the best solution. Dental bonding can replace up to half of a broken tooth. If the entire tooth must be replaced we can use a Dental Implant or Bridge.

Gaps and missing teeth

Gaps and missing teeth can trap food particles, can allow your teeth to shift, and can make chewing painful. Gaps and missing teeth can even affect the way that you speak.

Gaps can be covered with Porcelain veneers or filed with Dental Bonding by building up the teeth on either side. Missing teeth can be replaced with several Prosthodontics options, including Dental implants, Fixed Bridges, or Partials.

Crooked, misshapen, and crowded teeth

We have several approaches to correcting crooked and crowded teeth. We can truly straighten you teeth with Invisalign™. This process takes time, but it is well worth the effort.

The appearance of crooked, crowded, and misshapen teeth can also be corrected with Porcelain Veneers or Dental Bonding. This will not straighten your teeth, but it will make them appear straight.

Discoloration

Discoloration can range from dullness to deep staining. Tooth whitening is a very popular cosmetic dentistry procedure. It is a great way to get familiar with cosmetic dentistry and it is beneficial if you have not had procedures in the past. However, some types of staining are not responsive to whitening.

For unresponsive stains, we use Porcelain Veneers or Dental Bonding to cover the discoloration. The porcelain will look just like your natural tooth enamel but white and bright. If just one or a few teeth are stained, we will match the porcelain to the color of your other teeth. Either way, the result is a beautiful, natural looking smile.

Misaligned Bite

As a Neuromuscular Dentist Dr. Green can correct a misaligned bite, relieving chronic pain, protecting your teeth from further damage and restoring the beauty of your entire face.

A misaligned bite is one of the most serious cosmetic dental problems. It affects your profile, the look of your whole face, and can even cause poor posture. An underbite causes a protruding chin. An overbite can cause a double chin, turkey neck, and make your nose appear too large. Misaligned bite affects the muscles in your face, can cause wrinkles, and make you look far older than your really are.

Correcting a misaligned bite can have more dramatic results than many cosmetic surgery procedures, restoring your youthful appearance and relieving your pain.
